MLI
headquarters are in Butte, Montana. A local board of directors works
with the MLI staff to provide program direction and to insure program
quality. In response to the needs of patients and families in
Southwest Montana, a group of nurses formed a subsidiary of MLI called
the “Nurses Care Network.” The Nurses Care Network provides
financial assistance to families with medical emergencies involving
children who need special hospitalization available only outside of
the region.
Montana
Tech of the University of Montana is located in Butte and educates
mining, petroleum, computer, and environmental engineers. Tech also
has a National Health Informatics Center and an advanced nursing
curriculum. MLI works with Tech professors to further its mission.
Overlooking
Butte is Our Lady of the Rockies, a 90-foot-tall statue of Mary the
Mother of Jesus that recognizes the contribution of women, especially
mothers, to society and mankind. Our Lady of the Rockies is an ongoing
source of inspiration for MLI’s work.
To
the northeast of Butte lies the capital city of Helena.
Here MLI works with Carroll College’s Cynthia Gustafson,
Ph.D., R.N., Chair, Department of Nursing and Director, Parish Nurse
Center. Dr. Gustafson has taken volunteer student nurses to Swaziland
to see conditions first hand and to work with our “New Robe”
program, which she helped to develop.
